Wickie updates for Android are delivered through our website, through the links we send by email, and through the update messages you see inside the app. This guide explains how the update works, why it's done this way, and what happens to your account along the way.
Why Android updates come as an APK
Instead of updating silently in the background from a store, the Android version of Wickie is distributed as an APK — the standard installation file format for Android apps. You download it and install it yourself.
The practical effect is that you control when you update, and the newest version reaches you as soon as it's released rather than waiting on a review queue. The trade-off is one extra minute of work on your side, which this guide walks through.
The important part: only ever download the Wickie APK from wickie.io or from a link in an official Wickie email. An APK from a forum, a file-sharing site or a messaging group can be modified, and a modified crypto app is exactly the kind of thing you don't want on the phone holding your funds.
Installing the latest version — five steps
Delete the Wickie app currently installed on your phone. This clears the older version out of the way so the new one installs cleanly.
Go to wickie.io and select APK for Android.
Download the latest Wickie APK file.
Open your phone's Downloads folder and tap the downloaded file.
Follow the instructions on your screen to install Wickie again.
Once the installation is complete, you'll be running the latest Android version with the newest updates and interface.

What happens to your account and your funds
Nothing. Your account lives on Wickie's servers, not on your phone. Deleting the app removes the software from your device; it does not touch your balance, your transaction history, your verification status or your settings. When you sign back in after reinstalling, everything is exactly where you left it.
What you will need is your login details, and your two-factor authentication method if you have it enabled. Before you delete the app, make sure you can still access that second factor — your authenticator app, your recovery codes, or the phone number you use for SMS. If your authenticator codes were stored only inside an app you're about to remove, sort that out first.
If your phone asks for permission
Android protects you by blocking installations from outside the Play Store until you explicitly allow them. The first time you tap the downloaded file, you may see a message along the lines of "For your security, your phone is not allowed to install unknown apps from this source."
That message is expected. Tap Settings in the prompt, enable the permission for the browser or file manager you used to download the file, then go back and tap the APK. file download button again. Your phone will handle the rest. You can turn the permission off again afterwards if you prefer.
If you don't update right away
Your current app will still work. You simply won't see the latest features until you reinstall from the APK. There's no pressure and no deadline — just an easy path to the newest improvements whenever you're ready.
That said, updates often include security fixes and improvements to how the app handles your transactions, so it's worth doing when you have a spare minute rather than leaving it for months.
Only download the Wickie APK from wickie.io or from an official Wickie email or pop-up messages in the Wickie app. If you're ever unsure whether a file or a message is genuinely from us, contact support before installing anything.
